MIS Mini-Incision Hip Replacement Procedure

Mini-Incision Hip Replacement is less invasive than traditional hip replacement surgery, involving a much smaller incision and specialized surgical instruments. The surgeon replaces the damaged portions of your hip with a prosthesis to give you smooth and painless movement. The prosthesis is made of a combination of metal and plastic.

Dr. Behzadi has received extensive training and certification on this procedure through The Zimmer Institute. For more information on the Zimmer Institute and MIS technology, please visit www.pacewithlife.com.

The MIS technique can offer significant advantages over traditional hip replacement, including:

  • Smaller incision and scar  (2 ½ to 3 ½ inches, instead of the 10-to 12-inch standard incision from traditional hip replacement)

  • Shorter hospital stay (approximately 3 days, compared to 4 ½ or more days for traditional hip replacement)

  • Faster rehabilitation

Candidacy for this procedure is based on several anatomical factors that must be assessed by Dr. Behzadi, including extent and pattern of arthritis and bone structure. People with the following factors typically are not candidates for this procedure:

  • Obesity

  • Recent history of deep vein thrombosis (DVT)

  • Unstable medical conditions that may lead to a higher risk of complications

  • Prior hip replacement surgery on the same hip
